Power Outage Affects Blog Temporarily

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

Had a power outage today and I was away from the office but everything came back online by itself except the music didn't begin streaming. The cause of the power outage I am guessing is the street construction about a block away. I have not been told that the construction is officially the cause of the power outage so I will have to check sources later but its my guess.

I will have to design a batch script for the various components of the music to come up in proper order once the system is rebooted for my music server since this is the only system that didn't restart the software I use properly. When I get a chance I will test it on my backup music server. The challenge will be automating the music stream start and encoders.

My Linux boxes that host my web servers & game servers appear to have come back and executed the start-up scripts just fine, the server that streams the music is on Windows.

I am posting this message on my all of my blogs:

Updated the Streaming Software

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
I updated the streaming media software to the latest version and had a brief outage of perhaps 6 or 7 minutes when I anticipated 3 - 5 minutes. Mainly one of the dynamic libraries that provide connectivity to MySQL would not release so I had to do a full system reboot even after shutting down MySQL.

Now back up and streaming the music just fine again after this short period of maintenance!

Music Server Back After Maintenance

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
I have brought the music server back online streaming music again.
I had some station issues last night due to a software vendor practicing an extremely questionable licensing scheme that prevented me from streaming my music to you.

A routine maintenance that should have took maybe 15 minutes at the most took all night due tho this ridiculousness! I was just switching over from a backup KVM switch to one that was returned after I sent a defective one in.

I was staring at total downtime for the entire weekend for the first time since I started broadcasting and streaming over the internet since 2004. Already this has been one of the longest times if not the longest time of dead air since I started doing this!

I had tried reinstalling and some other things to get back up and running so a few items I may have to tighten up again.

F!#% I'm going to bed but I do have to give a small bit of credit to the support person who allowed the activation of something I should never had to do in the first place since I had already paid the price!

May be time to go out and explore options but I'll cool off first!

I"M OUT FOR NOW!!

Had to Remove RSS Feeds From Other Sites

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
Until I can figure out why RSS feeds on my blogs is causing issues updating my blog sites I had to remove the RSS feeds about updates on other sites. This blog was doing fine until I tried to update a post and ran into the RSS error I have yet to figure out:

"Operation "ne": no method found, left argument in overloaded package XML::LibXML::Error, right argument has no overloaded magic"

I discuss the issue here:

Back on Main Music Server

I am all done doubling the size of my music drive on my main production music server. I had a few SCSI termination issues to deal with but got that figured out with a nice active SCSI terminator I had from my stock of parts.

Enjoy the music!

Switching to Backup Music Server

I'm making some hardware updates so I will be switching over to my backup music server for a moment.

Now Using MP3 Lame Encoders

| 0 Comments | 1 TrackBack

I was seeing one of the CPU's getting hammered on the server side and discovered that the normal mp3 encoders I was using was pegging the CPU to 100 percent.

This is why its good to have a test system, I was thinking it was network or driver related and took a few network services I'm not yet using away from my backup sever and that did nothing. I was about to get more intrusive and switch which NIC the music streamed out and look into drivers but decided to look around the web and Spacial Audio forums for clues.

I didn't get my exact answer but saw a mention about mp3 lame encoders. So I started up my streams on the test server and turned them off one by one and presto the mp3 encoders were the issue. I configured some mp3 LAME encoders and CPU usage went way down!

I guess the Windows codecs used by the mp3 encoders for my normal mp3 streams was the issue.

Made the same change on the production music server and CPU usage is now down to acceptable levels on the server side!

Watched a movie and then couldn't get back to sleep so came in to test my theories, now time to get a little sleep!

Music Server Back Up

I did some memory tests and tried to get application to go to different processors but a bit hard to do without thread aware apps.

Taking Music Server Down For Inspection Briefly

Taking music server down to inspect the memory for a moment, will be back shortly so no need to switch to backup server.
