About, Why I Play Music
I started playing music on the Internet because it gave me a running project where I can keep my technical skills honed and upgraded because of the various IT (computer skills) disciplines required for such a project as serving up music over the INTERNET. I started with a static web page hosted with my ISP back in the mid-nineties and while interesting that wasn't much of a challenge. I stopped for several years after moving to another ISP and going back to school.
After I got done with school again I wanted a project away from work and turned again to static web pages. About this same time I also pulled out some audio software that came with a sound card I bought years before to help play music around the house and to DJ parties with and found I could use it to stream music across the Internet. I then found out about the Web 2.0 type of software so I started looking at various blog software I could use.
It was too much of a hassle to do the Web 2.0 and music stream from a hosted site so then I started hosting first on my HP-UX system but then moved to Linux since the Linux platform was more ready for the Open Source software I was going to be using. Besides what better way to keep up on my technical skills than to host my own servers in my house!
Now I was combining two things I enjoy music and technical challenges. Everything here is setup and maintained by yours truly. This includes servers, database, Blog server setup & maintenance, web pages, music stream, networking, security, play list setup etc..
Quite a while ago I started doing some side DJ gigs, some community radio just having fun with the music. I used to do a community radio hip-hop show because I was tired of listening to apologetic stations who felt embarrassed to be associated with hip-hop when they did play the music. Hip-hop is not the only music I play or enjoy as you see from viewing the genre's I play on the previous page.
Why am I not at a radio station? I was about to make that jump when I decided I liked the computer field more than the ambiguous nature of the constantly changing radio station scene where D J's no longer had any control of the music play list. Besides I always had a much funkier taste of music than they play on the stations. I also enjoyed hip-hop from my first exposure before it was played on radio stations. Then the only way you could find the new cuts was listening to the end of the songs and wait for the shout-outs or word of mouth.
Just one more thought and I will stop preaching . A lot of people come to me and tell me how they have matured because they now listen and appreciate jazz or something smooth. Check this I have enjoyed Jazz and smooth music since I was a child and the type of music you listen to does not necessarily make you mature.......ahhhright! When hip-hop hit that just hit a different spot that I and many others identify with. Check the mix of music and after a while you may appreciate what each genre brings for the human spirit to focus upon.
Now after getting setup I have run into a few local artists who want their songs included in the mix and wish to be featured. I will be working on this featured section and have it up and communicate it when I'm done with that. I will have some links or web pages featuring these artists and their music specifically.

Hi Snake Ice,
That's pretty imressive you doing all this by yourself. Maybe in the future when I have more time I can learn a thing or two from you. Do you think I could submit some material for consideration for yor artist feature project. I'm not exactly local, but maybe you can check out some of the stuff.
You can see IT HARD by 3B (Sugar Minott sons) and JAH Niceness & Keke I on youtube. Fulljoy.

Let me know about the features. JAH bless.
I enjoyed the video on "YouTube" and the snippet that I heard on your site "http://www.shemana.com". I sent you an email and will follow up later. I'm sure we can work together on the artist feature which I did expect to expand beyond the local artist focus but keeping the local artist with their special spot along with some indie artist.
