Starting Blog Officially

By Darryl Hoytt on June 3, 2004 12:04 AM | 0 Comments

I have had the Blog up and running for a while after moving my website first from my ISP's webserver. I had to move off of their server because I was constantly updating my song information too frequently from my music server in an environment where others shared the bandwidth.
I then tried getting this Blog up and running on HPUX which is not yet supported and thus did not work. This caused an issue since I had my apache webserver running on my HP-UX server. I decided to move my webserver to a Linux system because of this.
I had to reload Linux on one of my other systems and get apache running on then switch over when satisfied it was serving up web pages properly. I also like to know I can recover quickly so I really wanted to have a good feel for this Linux system and where and what everything was doing. I also had to get a separate router to keep my packets for the webserver going to the proper static ip address for webcasting and streaming my music.
While this was all going on I moved my music server off of my main system and built a Dual Xeon 2.4 system with 1gb of RAM and of course nothing but SCSI drives to improve the performance and eliminate lag when manually manipulating the playlists while streaming the music.
Whew, I had to convert a rack-mounted case designed for hot swap SCSI 50 pin hard drives that had 2 separate power supplies. I had to saw and bend metal, drill curse, rewire molex power plugs etc..and curse and bleed some more!!

I then had to go through all of the steps of setting up this Blog and "MYSQL" which stores and archives blog comments.

For those of you keeping track yes I have two systems for this operation. The web server is running Linux Fedora1 core. The music server is running Windows XP so I can use some DJ mixing software that I also use to stream the music.

Keep coming back as I get time I will do more and really polish this site. I am looking at other methods of streaming. I will focus more on aesthetics but I first prefer to have the technical portion operating well. I'm sure in a few months I would have some major and minor tweaks and little behind the scenes will be the same!

hmmm... still learning the front end and the back end of the blog soooo....

Right now just having a lot of fun doing this!!
