Multi-Player Gaming Server Back Up

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
I have my multi-player Gaming server back up after rolling back to another kernel and running selinux relabel. Things look god for now but I will be checking for some other packages that may need to be installed but that shouldn't affect the server but if it does I will let you know.

FYI BZ Flag tank game is not running at this time and hasn't for a while until I update that. I haven't had time to do that since I have been testing how and with what Blog or CMS I will be using and moving to for my next site since Movable Type has seen updates almost grins to a halt.. Plus I'm seeing real possibilities in other CMS with more flexibility with the way I want my site to look. Stay tuned!

Mult-Player Gaming Server Down Briefly

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
I had some issues while updating the and the kernel became unstable and I had to switch to a new kernel and though that was quick I have a few other processes I must run before fully booting up and getting the milt-player games online. The flash games are unaffected by this since they reside on another server.

So please be patient while I let the other processes run their course.

Replacing Router Brief System Interruptions

I am replacing one of my main routers to the internet so there will be some brief interruptions as I place my newly configured router in place.

Moved Games to New Server

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
I finally had a chance to work out some of the kinks and moved my Games Server to a another system. I made the move to cut down of the server noise power usage as well as so I could eventually use the previous game server in another capacity and also upgrade the OS.

The games are all the same just migrated the data & databases over so you will notice no changes.

During this time though I intended to make Trackmania a Freezone server but then I ran into the issue of needing a United paid account to register the server. I may revisit registering the server as Freezone Trackmania later perhaps I missed something. Should I decide to pay I will wait until I have time to play more often or until Trackmania2 comes out if I decide to stay with the game.

Either way I'm up on my new games server and more changes to come as the time allows for it.

Power Outage Affects Blog Temporarily

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks

Had a power outage today and I was away from the office but everything came back online by itself except the music didn't begin streaming. The cause of the power outage I am guessing is the street construction about a block away. I have not been told that the construction is officially the cause of the power outage so I will have to check sources later but its my guess.

I will have to design a batch script for the various components of the music to come up in proper order once the system is rebooted for my music server since this is the only system that didn't restart the software I use properly. When I get a chance I will test it on my backup music server. The challenge will be automating the music stream start and encoders.

My Linux boxes that host my web servers & game servers appear to have come back and executed the start-up scripts just fine, the server that streams the music is on Windows.

New Game Server Officially In Place

Well finally I have the new "Da Hoytt Online Games" server online for multi-player games.

I have the same line up of  first person shooters: Nexuiz,  & ETQW, I then have the tank "Capture the Flag" game BZFlag with the new comer to my stable of growing games is "Trackmania!

As I was going through testing out the various server to insure I can reach them externally via the internet a few players jumped on the new Trackmania server and went at it on the tracks! Very exciting stuff.

This new server is incredibly robust so there should be no lag time caused by resources including my connection which is 25 mb up and 25 mb down!

I still have not mastered the games due to time and scheduling issues but leave me a note when you will be on via comment or other method and I'll see you in one of these games!

Heck I even bought me a new wheel and pedals to race with!

I also must mention that the following games are free: Nexuiz, BZFlags & Trackmania.

ETQW is one of the latest of the legendary offspring of the first popular multi-player internet online games that started the craze, Quake/Quake2! I was very dominant in those days online but well now I still have fun but not on the top of the gaming heap.

Anyhow I'm watching players really tear it up on the Trackmania server and its time to join in!

Almost forgot you can search for all games under the server name in each game with the name of "Snakeice Den"

Oh yes how to get the games:

BZFlags:

Trackmania:

Working on Hosting Racing Server Trackmania

| 1 Comment | 0 TrackBacks
Testing out Trackmania on my game server and I just have it worked out on my test server from the CLI and will next start testing the startup scripts I will be using and seeing if the network routing steps I took affected other games and applications.

The first challenge that I had  was first finding the most recent Trackmania Forever dedicated server code. I started working with the 2006 version that's offered all over the internet and then upon further searching forums about issues found code from this year, "03-15-2010" (TrackmaniaServer_2010-03-15.zip) which contains Linux & Windows server versions as opposed to working with 2006 bits (TmDedicatedServer_2006-01-29.tgz).

I had found the configuration parameters to my liking with the 2006 bits and really the 2010 configuration parameters weren't different, just some switches weren't needed on the CLI to launch the command plus a nice addition in the configuration file.

I actually had the 2006 flavor up and running one one system I have but alas this only has one NIC and that is always my issue since my production game server has two NICs'. After moving the 2006 configuration to another system that will soon be in production and has multi-homed NIC's is when the fun started!

I have run into routing issues previously with my multi-homed NIC systems with my web server & game server functions so the fact that these challenges would be there with Trackmania was no surprise. My NIC's on these systems are not teamed on one network but exist on a separate internal LAN that then goes out on certain forwarded ports to a different static WAN.  Normally though in the specific application configuration files are parameters you configure to bind to to a certain NIC, then you see which way the packets route and tweak accordingly.

Well the configuration files on Trackmania for binding and pointing towards certain NIC's wasn't working for me the way it did with other games/web applications.

I'll have to sit back and go into more details later but I finally was able to get my Trackmania  Forever server recognized locally on the LAN and on the internet at the same time. I was previously able to only get either online or LAN recognized at one time!

Now I have to see if the network tweaks affected my other games/web servers and databases etc. that also use those connections on the system. I then have to see if my other systems that have hooks into my game server can reach the server with the associated network tweaks.

Oh and I actually had to overcome my own path issues I had when running the test script/commands as well since I had the 2006 bits launching from one directory and the 2010 bits from another directory I needed to get some QA going on my locations and make sure my commands/scripts pointed to the correct files! DOH!!

I will not be able to work on this tomorrow but hopefully soon. I will keep you posted on the progress. I have some other online games I will be hosting on my servers and update my other games.

You will start seeing other projects on my other Blogs on DA Hoytt's Universe like live video streamed from a location to my site and updating photo sharing software, eCommerce site, blog software, music streaming software and server consolidation to cool down my office/computer room here at home where it all runs from since 2004!

Come on back soon and I'll have something different for you!

Well the gaming server is still going strong I logged in to the various games after replacing the fans and everything was ok. I didn't post but actually 15 minutes after my  previous post the server was up and running again. I just had to run and do a few other things around the house as well as cook dinner and eat.

I then moved all of the online action games onto another server I had configured and then reconfigured over the weekend. That server seems to be going just fine with the current lineup of games.

I almost forgot myself and switched over to it but while forwarding the ports on the router I forgot I have other items on that server that need to be moved over first as well as installing some other software that I like to use behind the scenes.

So I will hold off on making my nice robust server available to the public until I get things working the way I wish as well as making sure everything comes up after reboots etc.. you know the standard testing.

Stay tuned I'm moving thngs around again and will have some new things on game servers as well as the other pages her on "Da' Hoytt's Online Universe"!!

Took Gaming System Down for Maintenance

| 0 Comments | 0 TrackBacks
The gaming server was overheating so I took it down to find out why and ended up that one of the fan power plugs was off which may not have mattered during the cool summer we have had so far.

The CPU fan is now hooked up and it seems to be cooling down but closer to the heat threshold than I would like still.
