Rebooting game server after installing some OS updates.
March 2010 Archives
I found that the new maps were not downloading to the clients connecting to my server and I have corrected that on the server side.
At first I had a symbolic link to the appropriate files in Nexuiz server directory where the maps are but it couldn't follow the symbolic link properly so I moved copies of the maps into a directory where they can be downloaded.
Until I get the directory owner permissions & Apache directives to follow the SymLink I will keep a copy of the maps for downloading and a copy for playing on the server and have to remember to update them bot at the same time.
For now enjoy my initial Nexuiz server as I continue to tweak it!
I added the 35 map pack that they have available on the Nexuiz site on the server for some more variety. The new maps seem to be showing up just fine!
I'm still learning this game after an absence from playing online games for many years and having fun in the process, of course.
This very cool code I picked up from this site "http://static.doxer.se/other/nexuiz/stats.php" displays the players on my Nexuiz server that I host as well as the current map that they are playing on.
To get to the page within my site that shows the information under the headline " View Current map & players on this Nexuiz Server" click that link or paste/or click this link:

I had forgotten it was so much fun to play on-line multi-player games. I played quite a bit in the '90's in LAN games and when Quake2 became the first on-line hit with dial-up and a few ISDN & DSL connections that was a mesmerizing time!
Well now I have my own servers that I host and was playing on my Nexuiz server learning the keystrokes and getting a feel of the flow with the bots I have programmed on the server along with a visitor who showed me how much I have to learn.
This is a terrific multi-player game that is Open Source and free but I'm sure the developers would appreciate any donations.
I think I need a more responsive keyboard and laser mouse and of course I need to improve my skill-set but man it was fun again to play on-line.
